Information is Power
Social Media Campaign for Controversial Topics
OCT 2019 – FEB 2020
STUDENT PROJECT – Social Media Campaign, Illustration, Animation
Supervised by Dipl. Des. Daniela Spinelli
Our worldview is shaped by algorithms. Information is abundant, omnipresent, and all around us. Communication design has the power to bring order out of chaos, provide insights, make complex issues experiential, and evoke emotional reactions. We have the power to visualize urgent topics so that everyone can understand them at a glance.
In the project "Information is Power," we agreed upon five controversial topics that were to be visualized in short social media posts. Additionally, print versions were created for the exhibition during the annual HBK Rundgang (open house).
I opted for a vector-based illustration style with bold colors and deliberately employed color contrasts. The topics of intersex, consumerism, data protection, sea rescue, and racism were depicted with emotionless machines, aiming to dehumanize these human-made problems and present them in an absurd manner.
