Time-Portrait Bench

Tourism project for the city

MAR – JUL 2019

STUDENT PROJECT – City Planning, Tourism

Supervised by Prof. Ivica Maksimovic

The “Time-Portrait Bench” project originated from a commission by the Saarland Tourism Board, who were seeking new ideas for bicycle tourism in the Saarland region.

My idea combines the opportunity to take a break with information about historical figures from Saarland. During the rest, interested tourists can either read the text on the backrest or scan the portrait using a mobile app. On the screen, the figure comes to life and narrates their story in the first person.

For the presentation of my idea, I created designs for the construction of the bench and a preview of how the augmented reality feature with the talking portrait could look like.

The stone engraving moves and tells its story in the video feed of the mobile app.
